A family-owned, 150-acre apple orchard in North Georgia, R and A Orchards features a farm market filled with locally grown and sourced fruits, including 38 varieties of apples, 30 varieties of peaches and eight varieties of nectarines, as well as fresh vegetables, honey, jams, jellies and more throughout the year.
Since 1947, this farm market, bakery and cafe has served up 18 different varieties of homemade fried pies, chicken and dumplings, sandwiches, fudge and more. In the spring, we have fresh-picked strawberries followed by fresh-picked peaches in the summer. During the fall, we offer U-pick for seven varieties of apples on the weekends during September and October.

I visited R & A with a friend of mine who lives close to this area. Its one of her favorites! I purchased some fresh veggies – cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. They have a great selection of fried pies- so i had to take a few of those home! Apple, peach and sweet potato! Yum! To end our visit my friend and I shared a cup of their home made peach ice cream! It was fabulous and on a HOT GA day, it hit the spot. 🙂 Will definitely be back.

This is our favorite orchard. They have the best blueberries, local tomatoes and peaches. We found them last year when we stayed in Elijay and still drove down from Blue Ridge this year. We’re 2 minutes from Mercier Orchard but were not impressed with the fruits and produce there.
They have a huge selection of fried pies and the fresh soup of the day is amazing. In addition, they have local honey, jams, jellies, fresh bread, pastries, pies and fresh ice cream and gelato. Pretty much everything tastes delicious!

I told my husband last week that if our baby didn’t come by this weekend, I wanted to go apple picking! The last time we went was October 3 years ago, so my 2-yr-old had never been. Unfortunately, he was a little wild the whole time, so my poor husband had the task of wrangling him while my daughter and I walked around getting apples. Maybe next year my son will do better because I definitely want to go back!
Let me just say that R & A Orchards is the place to go if you want to pick apples. It was busy, but not overwhelming the way BJ Reese was. We had actually planned on going to BJ Reese until we saw the line backed up a mile or so on the road. It was ridiculous! Obviously, BJ Reese is the one most people have heard of, but you actually pass R & A Orchards first.
I’m so glad we went here instead because the views are beautiful and the apples looked amazing. Everything inside the store was delicious and this preggers definitely indulged in an apple cider donut because it was to die for. The people were friendly and the whole experience was wonderful!
*One thing to note: if you need a stroller to walk around the orchard, you CAN bring one. I asked inside about it and she wasn’t sure, but she said it likely depended on how full the wagon ride up to the orchard was. Since every wagon was full, we didn’t think we could bring it. I wish we had despite the crowd because my son was a little too young to not be contained. Next time, we’ll bring one on the wagon with us!
